How To Seek the Kingdom of God: 5 steps to Live a Life Of Faith

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”Matthew 6:33

There is a command that echoes above the noise of this world, straight from the mouth of our Lord Jesus Christ: Seek first the Kingdom of God. Not second. Not after you’ve chased the bag. Not after you’ve pleased your flesh. But first.

Child of God, this is not a suggestion—it is a divine priority.

What Is the Kingdom of God?

The Kingdom of God is not a place you pack your bags and travel to—it is the reign of God in your heart. Jesus said, The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21). This Kingdom is not about earthly riches, worldly fame, or political thrones. It’s about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17).

Many today are building their own empires—self-made, self-driven, and self-glorifying. But the Kingdom of God demands a crucified life, not a crowned ego. You must decrease so He may increase (John 3:30).

Jesus and the Kingdom

Jesus didn’t come for popularity—He came with one message:
“Repent! For the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17).

He revealed the Kingdom through parables:

  • Like a mustard seed—small but powerful (Matthew 13:31–32).
  • Like treasure hidden in a field—worth giving everything to find (Matthew 13:44).
  • Like ten virgins waiting—some wise, some foolish (Matthew 25:1–13).

The Kingdom isn’t for sale—but it will cost you everything.

Why You Must Seek It

Because nothing else will satisfy you.

You can chase money, you can chase fame, you can chase relationships—but if you don’t have the Kingdom, you’re still empty. What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36)

Seeking the Kingdom connects you with the King Himself. It brings clarity in confusion, peace in chaos, and joy in sorrow. You don’t just gain blessings—you gain purpose.

“In Thy presence is fullness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)

This world is fading. Nations will crumble. Systems will fail. But the Kingdom of God is unshakable (Hebrews 12:28). That’s why you must seek it—because everything else is temporary.

How to Seek the Kingdom of God

1. Through a Life of Prayer

Prayer is not a backup plan—it’s the battle plan. The early Church didn’t play about prayer, and neither should you. Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Talk to God daily. Not just when you’re in trouble. Cultivate a lifestyle where the first voice you seek is His.

2. By Feeding on the Word

The Bible is your Kingdom manual. Jesus said, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)

Stop scrolling endlessly and start studying intentionally. Let the Word correct you, direct you, and transform you.

3. Through Worship and Fellowship

Worship shifts your focus. It dethrones you and enthrones Him. It takes your eyes off problems and puts them on the King.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)

4. By Living What You Preach

Don’t just talk Kingdom—live Kingdom. That means loving the unlovable. Forgiving those who hurt you. Serving those who can’t repay you.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

5. By Dying to Self Daily

The Kingdom of God isn’t for the proud. It’s for the poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3). Humility is the doorway.

Let go of selfish ambition. Let go of greed. Let go of comparison. Crucify the flesh and carry your cross (Luke 9:23)..

Challenges You Will Face

Don’t expect applause when you seek the Kingdom. The enemy will fight you. Distractions will come. Trials will rise. But keep your eyes on Jesus.

Through much tribulation we must enter into the kingdom of God.” (Acts 14:22)

Some days you’ll feel like giving up. But keep pressing. Why? Because your crown is waiting (2 Timothy 4:8). Because your King is returning (Revelation 22:12). Because your labor is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Beware of Misconceptions

The Kingdom is not religion. It’s not rituals and robes. It’s not Sunday-only Christianity. The Kingdom is relationship with God through Christ—alive, active, and radical.

Don’t let the world fool you. Don’t let lukewarm believers distract you. Don’t let fake doctrines seduce you. Stay rooted in the truth.

The Final Word

The Kingdom of God is not far from you. It’s calling your name. It’s knocking on the door of your heart.

Will you answer? Will you lay down your idols? Will you pick up your cross? Will you stop chasing shadows and start seeking substance?

Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

This is the hour. This is the call. The Kingdom is here. Enter in.

A Call to Repentance

Maybe as you read this, something shifted in your heart.
You realize you’ve been near the church, but far from God.
Or maybe you once walked with Him but you’ve strayed.

This is your moment. This is your wake-up call.

Tomorrow is not promised. Eternity is real. Heaven is real. Hell is real.
And Jesus is calling you home.

Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.” – Acts 3:19
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.” – 1 John 1:9

A Call to Repentance

If you’re ready to surrender your life to Christ, pray this from your heart:

Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner in need of grace. I believe You died for me and rose again on the third day. Forgive me of all my sins. Wash me clean. I renounce the world, sin, and every false path.Today, I surrender my life to You. Be my Lord. Be my Savior. Be my King.Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and teach me to walk in Your ways. From this day forward, I am Yours.Thank You for saving me.In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you prayed that prayer, Heaven is rejoicing over you right now! (Luke 15:7)

Now, don’t just stop here. Start reading your Bible daily. Find a Bible-believing church. Pray. Worship. Grow. And most of all, seek the Kingdom with all your heart.
